Nuts Makan Session: Phin's Steakhouse

It's "tradition" for us to celebrate after a competition.  I have been nagging for it and since we got 2 more good reasons added on, I pushed it into reality.

I arrived the earliest, as usual; somehow expected to hold 8 seats with just 2 headcount.  (That didn't work in Astons.)  The others arrived 15 minutes later.

I ordered their Black Angus beef  (200g) at $19.90.  ST got Aglio Olio Spaghetti at $9.90.  Everyone else got NZ Sirlion (300g) at $19.90.  Upgrades to meals were at $3.50 to $5.50 respectively.

The steaks were good.  While the quality of my steak is supposed to be better, I regretted not getting a "normal" Sirloin.  ST's spaghetti was dry, prickly and hot, not exactly nice to eat.

After dinner, we went to Ah Chew to have desserts.  A good evening.

Recreation Paintball in Singapore: A comparison of prices

Recreation Paintball in Singapore: A comparison of prices.
Based on 10 participants, shooting 250 balls each.

1) Red Dynasty
http://www.weplaypaintball.com/Prices.html

Rental: Free
Balls: $49.90 for 250 balls
Total: $49.90

2) Tag Paintball
http://www.paintball.com.sg/pBooking.htm

Number of Paintballs
Price
1000 paintballs
$250
2000 paintballs
$400
3000 paintballs
$600
4000 paintballs
$800
5000 paintballs
$1000
6000 paintballs
$1200
7000 paintballs
$1400
8000 paintballs
$1600
9000 paintballs
$1800
10000 paintballs
$2000

Rental: $15 (day), $20 (night)
Balls: Can't buy 2500 balls, so we should take the 3000 balls package at $600.  However, for comparison sake, it's $50 for 250 balls
Total: $65 (day), $70 (night)

3) Crossfire (SG)
http://www.crossfire.com.sg/individual.html

The cost for each Crossfire Paintball game is:
* $25.00^ per player for session 1 and 4
* $40.00^ per player for session 2 and 3. 250 pellets is required to be purchased.

Purchase of additional pellets is available at 10 pellets for $0.70.

Each player is entitled to:
* 50 pellets of paintball

1. Our daily timeslots are as follow (including briefing and game play):
• Session 1 : (9.00am – 10.30am)
• Session 2 : (11.00am – 1.00pm*)
• Session 3 : (2.00pm – 4.00pm*)
• Session 4 : (4.00pm – 5.30pm)

So assuming If I want to play a game with 250 pellets, I'll have to fork out..
Session (1,4): ( $25 + ( 250 - 50 ) * 0.70 ) * 1.07 = $ 41.73
Session (2,3): ( $40 + ( 250 - 50 ) * 0.70 ) * 1.07 = $ 57.78

~
In summary:

This is only a flat comparison of prices.  You should consider the other factors before deciding where to play.

Avault's review of Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta Xbox 360

Avault's review of Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta Xbox 360.

[excerpt]
It seems like every month I’ve been sitting down to write a review for one of developer Bethesda’s DLC packs for Fallout 3. The company has been able to consistently deliver content for the popular action RPG and has somehow kept the game fresh and relevant. The add-ons have been received well for the most part, and everyone has had fun with them. With five now released, Bethesda claims they’re done with Fallout 3 DLC and are finally escaping from the Capitol Wasteland to move on to other things. The final release for the game, Mothership Zeta, transports you to a new setting and new story unlike anything experienced thus far. Could it deliver the quality of the previous offerings and end the saga on a high note?
[/excerpt]

their score: 3 out of 5 stars

Wound Infection

Wound Infection.
To a certain someone.

#1, souce: http://www.drugs.com/cg/wound-infection.html

What are the signs and symptoms of a wound infection? You may have any of the following:
  • High or low body temperature, low blood pressure, or a fast heart beat.

  • Increased discharge (blood or other fluid) or pus coming out of the wound. The discharge or pus may have an odd color or a bad smell.

  • Increased swelling that goes past the wound area and does not go away after five days. Swollen areas usually look red, feel painful, and feel warm when you touch them.

  • Wounds that do not heal or get better with treatment.

  • An old wound that bleeds easily.

  • A wound that is painful, even though it does not look like it should be.

#2, source: http://www.worldwidewounds.com/2004/january/Collier/Management-of-Wound-infections.html

Recognition of wound infection

The inflammatory response is a protective mechanism that aims to neutralise and destroy any toxic agents at the site of an injury and restore tissue homeostasis [17]. There are a number of indicators of infection, these include the classic signs related to the inflammatory process and further more subtle changes as highlighted by Cutting and Harding [18]. The classic signs of infection include:
  • Localised erythema
  • Localised pain
  • Localised heat
  • Cellulitus
  • Oedema.
Further criteria include:
  • Abscess
  • Discharge which may be viscous in nature, discoloured and purulent
  • Delayed healing not previously anticipated
  • Discolouration of tissues both within and at the wound margins
  • Friable, bleeding granulation tissue despite gentle handling of and the non adhesive nature of wound management materials used
  • Unexpected pain and/or tenderness either at the time of dressing change or reported by the patient as associated specifically with the wound even when the wound dressing is in place
  • Abnormal smell
  • Wound breakdown associated with wound pocketing/bridging at base of wound, ie when a wound that was assessed as healing starts to develop strips of granulation tissue in the base as opposed to a uniform spread of granulation tissue across the whole of the wound bed.
The above criteria should be used as discriminating factors when the 'classic' signs of wound infection do not appear to be present but the presence of a wound infection is suspected, usually as a result of a delay in wound healing that was not anticipated from the patient's medical history or knowledge of the patient's wound.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009.
as at 5 Aug 2009, 1am PDT

source: http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=19110062236&sid=3000

Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009. Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.

Our mission is to develop games that deliver an epic entertainment experience. As part of that commitment, we will always take as much time as needed to ensure that our games and services meet the expectations of our players and the standard for quality that we set for ourselves as developers. As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, we’ll also continue to polish and refine StarCraft II, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series’ legacy in the first half of 2010.

We will share more details about the beta, Battle.net, and StarCraft II’s launch in the future. Keep an eye on the official website at http://www.starcraft2.com for updates, and as always, thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for StarCraft II and all of Blizzard Entertainment’s games.

A hoo haa that nobody cares about

A hoo haa that nobody cares about.

This week, there was a little storm in a teacup in the local Speedball scene.
Xterix, for being cheeky while giving a suggestion, got banned from a local forum. Initially, I was writing a neutral post in his defense. When I detected the deletion of posts and the concurrent banning, I made a snap decision to publish it out. This may come as direct confrontation with the owners but I don't care. People got to know.

Now nobody made a squeak. Understandable. The old teams have gone inactive. The new teams still want to play. Where else but the only speedball field in Singapore? Most people just woke up to my weak protest and the owner's broadcast that a forum member has been banned.

I mentioned that I missed out some posts that transpired between King and Xterix. I thought originally that Xterix said, go ahead, delete my account. Through the help of another party, we managed to retrieve this. Judge for yourself.

If you wish, doesn't mean "go-ahead".

Sacarsam?

My aim is not to reinstate Xterix. My aim is to show the truth. For some time, I have been unhappy with King's heavy hand in topics he do not agree with. Then Elle will step in with an O' One-Two. There are better ways to solve this disagreement rather than act out on emoticons like small kids. I guess that's too late.

Eulogy for Xterix

Eulogy for Xterix.
by Zeonic.

I write this in regard to the passing of our Wargh! brother Xterix. Perhaps his name had also become that which must not be spoken. He is banned from this forum after a series of exchanges with the owners of this establishment. I did not comment then, and I will not comment now. What was done cannot be undone.

What I will say is how a good brother he was and still is (he is not really dead, though some may wish it so). It was under the banner of Wargh! that me and kongba was press ganged into the team Wargh! Nuts. Joran and Chak was enticing us with the entry fee sponsorship that Xterix had put up for the very first leg of SPNS. So we dived in head first and boy did we land head first too.

From then, even though Xterix did not participate directly in competition until this year, he crewed for us and offered us advice on planning and strategy in every game. Some may say little wonder Wargh! Nuts didn't get very far but we would like to think that its a miracle we got somewhere. After all, we have probably one of the oldest average player age and the highest gross tonnage in total team weight. Suffice to say, without Xterix, Wargh! Nuts would not have existed.

He could have gone the other way and be still around, but it was not his style. Not after they stick it in his face and let him smell what they considered wrong. No, its the way of the Wargh! to never compromise and choose death over disgrace.

So it is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to Xterix, ex-forum contributor, team sponsor, Wargh! boss and good brother.
