Strategy game?

Joran: Firstly, pardon my tardiness.  I was too busy with play after my short get-away.
Back to the game.  At first, this looks like a Build-hold-go.  Though to me, it feels like playing Dota on a single lane, with no one to ambush you.  It sure sucked up alot of my hours.

Likes: Gradual difficulty; different challenges; somewhat tolerable grinding, which was disguised as levels.
Dislike: Lots of grinding, which was disguised as levels.

Gemini Rue

Gemini Rue.
Sci-fi / noir adventure game.

Joran: The protagonist in this story appears to be an assasin who undergoes constant memory wipes.  I kinda like the mood.  The cheapest price I can get online is $13.50 SGD ($9.99 USD), on Wadjeteye Games.
A demo version can be download.

Review - Wot I Think: Avernum – Escape From The Pit

Review - Wot I Think: Avernum – Escape From The Pit

This is a remake of the original Avernum.  A shareware RPG game that despite its low quality graphics, drew me in for months.  I stopped when I could not figure out what to do next after hitting a strange energy barrier (registered customers only).
According to this review on 'Wot I think', the remake seems to have a number of rough edges.  However, my curiousity is piqued enough that I might try it.

Roll your own dice in Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!

Roll your own dice in Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!

The developers added in an option in single player mode to roll your own dice.  In their opinion, they added it because they thought it would be fun.

We didn't add the Dice Camera because we thought it more or less random; we added the Dice Camera because some of us think the act of rolling dice is fun in itself. We didn't expect a lot of gamers would use it, but we thought that the people who did use it would really appreciate it. I personally very much enjoy it. We did not expect that including the option to allow players to use the Dice Camera would cause some people to react very negatively, and in some cases, even angrily.

Another cute feature is the ability to play with chits, rather than 3D models.
I know I would appreciate these.

Naval War: Arctic Circle PC review

Naval War: Arctic Circle PC review

Joran: Since I had a naval strategy game itch recently...

The dynamics of modern naval combat as depicted in Naval War are more what I expected of submarines, not surface ships. Instead of hiding beneath frigid waters, you hide your 1,000-foot-long ships from the electric eye of radar. It’s a deadly cat-and-mouse game in the arctic, and the more passive your sensors are, the better. Going hot at the wrong moment can light up your billion-dollar fleet to a pack of missiles and still leave you groping in the dark.

Battleship Game World War 2 Edition

Battleship Game World War 2 Edition.
Strategy game.

Joran: I was watching Wolfpack on History channel, and felt nostalgic about this old game that I played, so I dug it up.  It has been around for 10 years more.  Few games allow you to play admiral on a turn by turn basis, that simulates the power of different ships.  In this game however, battleships are the kings of the seas, not carriers. Nevertheless, carriers are my favourites due to their versatility.
