1. Starting time
I woke up at 5am to get ready but was disappointed that the game started near 10am.

2. Lack of chairs
There were more players than chairs; or the chairs were taken up by large group of supporters that teams bring to the event. Oour chairs were "stolen" when our backs were turned; leaving us standing most of the time.

3. Security
Our tent was "invaded" by members of the public. Some took to sitting at our table.

4. Toilets
There were no public toilets. The boss/worker of the nearby "coffeeshop" got irritated by people entering *his* toilet and decided to close off access to it.

7. Vehicle traffic was well managed

8. Technical crew were competent

Reasons not to play SPNS.
In response to topic in forums - YOU THERE! WHY ARE YOU NOT PLAYING SPNS III?

1. Cheaper paint means more training.
The price of paint in Malaysia is 1/4 of what it is in Singapore.  With cheaper costs means you shoot more and train more.  It doesn't mean more savings because the players will buy more.
You can have a guy with an E-marker training his teammates to "hug" their bunkers.
You can do snap shooting drills all day at cardboard boxes.
You can have games after games.

2. Perceived scariness of older teams
Others have multiple divisions.  We only have, if you call it, 1 single division.
Newbies entering a tournament is like a newcomer to DotA, or whatever the current hot LAN game now is.  He will be apprehensive of being trashed and called a noob.
Btw, I hate that term.


[Closing]
Don't be too quick to judge players as selfish.  Everyone has different priorities.  We all had a chance to be young and free of worries, in comparison to adult life.
Some players have limited time to play each month so they need to maximise their "license to play" from their loved ones.
Some players have limited funds and can only play so much.
Some players overstretched themselves by playing paintball everywhere.


btw, Wargh! Nuts had participated in all 5 legs of SPNS since 2008, despite having the constraints listed above.

As mentioned, Wargh! Nuts is taking part in this event.

The event details are as follows:-

8.00 am 3 on 3 Tournament
1.00 pm 1 on 1 Tournament
2.00 pm 3 on 3 Torunament (continue)
5.00 pm Arrival of YB Dato' Shahrir Bin Abdul Samad
5.15 pm 3 on 3 Final
5.30 pm YB Dato' will deliver his speech
5.45 pm Prize Giving Ceremony

The 3 on 3

1. Registration Fee : RM200 / team (local players will automatically be a member of JBPaintball and will gain all benefits which will be offered from time to time)
2. Tourney Pellets : RM180 / box
3. Teams may consists of 1 local Div 3 players and 1 E-marker in their roasters - capped 15bps or uncapped semi auto mode only
4. Teams using their own marker are allowed to use their own loaders and barrels but subject to TNC by the organizer.
5. All teams will undergo 6 prelims games. Only 8 best teams qualify to a best of 3 games in the Quarter, 4 in Semi, 2 in 3rd n 4th and 2 in the Final.
6. Price will be RM1000 for the Champion, 2nd RM700, 3rd RM400. + Mystery Gift (will be announce during Captain's Meeting)
7. Venue (TBC - most probably Larkin Area)

Feel: somewhat annoying, as I couldn't know how heavy a load my structure could that.  Other building games tend to give you visual clues.

Nuts Makan Session

Nuts Makan Session.
Wargh! Nuts and Quasi-Nuts had a makan session on 17 Jul.
The meeting place was originally at Aston, Sembawang Shopping Centre but due to bad attitudes and bad service, we chose to relocate to Fish & Co instead.
I didn't exactly like the food but it was a good gathering nonetheless.

Majesty 2 will officially be released on September 11th

Majesty 2 will officially be released on September 11th.
Majesty 1, a fantasy themed, er... simulation where you buy units but have absolutely *no control* over them.  Hire a tax collector and he goes around collecting money.  Hire a rouge and he goes around stealing money.  Hire a hero and he'll clear your land of monsters.  Fail to hire enough hands to do these tasks and your land will crumble before your eyes.
Majesty 1 was definitely, in my pov, a game with a sharp learning curve; but it was memorable and perhaps, rewarding, once you get the hang of it.

So what will Majesty 2 bring?

game 1:
nuts on bottom. 1 guy came down the path, shot at us behind cover but was out of bonds. we had to scatter cos his range was longer due to height advantage. Xterix called him out but he refused to die; went back.

kongba (Raymond), on the slope, contacted the enemy. I kay poh walked up the main path to eyeball the enemy. enemy stood up and shot at me. I ran and got 2 bruises on my skull. dead.

Zeonic (tea), on bottom of slope, shot upwards. enemies came down the main path and saw Zeonic. Sneaked up to the crates. Meanwhile, KongBa got took out.

Zeonic got fired upon from 2 sides. Shot on neck on sides. Out. These enemies then proceeded up the slope where they helped kill 3 of their own guys. *lol*

Nuts guarding 2nd bend. Zeonic was "exposed", tasked to fire down the road. Kongba behind crate. Chak hiding behind Kongba in the grasses. Me hiding behind Chak, tasked to guard the back road. Down the main road, we got a lady in the big bunker. On the back road, laogao and Andrew were overlooking the main road and our bunkers. Brandon(?) was our mobile patrol.

game started; boredom set in. Enemy contacted our side. Can't see them. Started patrolling the back road.

Fire died down and I thought our guys got took out (in fact, the enemy got took out). Brandon(?) took laogao out of my sight. I took laogao's position - juz in case.

Sighted someone on the path. We looked at each other and hesitated. Shot at me; disappeared into foliage. Retreated to Andrew's position.

Fire-fight to my left. Brandon came down - dead. I hid into the foliage. Big bunker started firing.

Rustling to my left. See no one. Laogao joined Andrew. Saw attacker coming up on Zeonic's position. Fired at him and he scattered. Soon, Nuts start to engage enemies hiding behind trees. I stayed quiet in foliage.

Firing sounds to my right; Laogao got shot out. Andrew sprawled flat to hide. Got hand signal on attacker to my right. Attacker fired at Andrew; exposing himself. Andrew and I fired back. Both Andrew and attacker is out.

Sporadic exchanges then the call came for game over.

pros:  Nice Myth-like narrative.  Decent documentation
cons: Steep learning curve.  Annoying need to taunt throughout the whole game.  Insufficient info on how to use archers.

[Conclusion]
Quite playable if you have the patience to sit through this game.

TAG Paintball’s story started in 1994 in Phuket, Thailand, where Ken had been running three resorts. “I was shooting pistols as a pastime there, but my friends and I wanted to be able to shoot at one another so we found a system from the United States,” he says.
As such, he started his first TAG Paintball field in Phuket and it turned out to be a success, so Ken decided to start one in Singapore after returning that year. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out quite as smoothly over here. The Government was reluctant to issue a licence as the paintball guns were listed as firearms. It took Ken five years to convince the authorities that they were safe for recreational use. “I just kept applying every year and hoped that there would be someone who knew about the sport from studying in the US.” chuckles Ken.

Who is running the show?

[Thoughts]
The recent cancellation of SPNS Leg 3 raised a query in my head.  Was that a PBAS decision?  Or was that RD speaking?

The call to register our interests online lasted 92+ hrs between 2009-06-25, 18:32:25 to 2009-06-29, 15:00:04.  There was no publicity, outside of the post in the forum, which may lead people to think that this was a lacklustre effort. 
What could be the factors contributing to this?

1. Costs
The organisers claimed that they ran into the red for organising SPNS '08 Leg 1.  Then onwards, they said they made "a little" from the subsequent legs.
For SPNS '09 Leg 2, the playing field was moved outside of RD; increasing costs.
Would this lead to lack of interests for the affiliated field: RD?

2. Attendance
There were difficulties in getting teams to sign up.  SPNS '09 Leg 1 almost couldn't see enough teams till Wargh! Nuts made their entrance, followed by Evil Avengers and Red West which tipped the scale and allowed the Leg to go on.
SPNS '09 Leg 2 had 16 participating teams, as compared to 9 teams from Leg 1, but this could be attributed to the draw of playing outside RD.  At least half the teams are either less active or do not train in Singapore.
Would this lead to fatigue among the organisers?

3. Complaints
From the cost of paint to unhappiness over perceived bad calls, this has dogged the series since Day 1.
Would this cause bitterness?

At the end of the day, it appears to me as a business decision.  "So many problems for so little rewards.  Why bother?" - That is the choice of a businessman and I respect that.
But who runs SPNS?
The forums and SPNS information page are hosted on a server belonging to a business entity - RD.  Does it mean that SPNS is therefore conducted by RD?  If not, then does that mean RD allows its business opportunity to be dictated by PBAS?
The two entities are so closely meshed that I can't really tell the difference. 
RD's responsibility is towards its shareholders.
PBAS's responsibility is towards the players it represents.
Should we be concerned if there's a conflict in interests?
